Park Plaza Set To Open First Hotel in Las Vegas.
NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 2, 2003) ---- Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts,
part of Minneapolis-based Carlson Hotels Worldwide, today announced
that the former Lady
Luck Casino Hotel in Las Vegas will join the full-service hotel
chain later this month as the Park Plaza Las Vegas Lady Luck Casino
Hotel.
The 789-room casino hotel, located downtown directly across from
the Fremont Street Experience, offers four restaurants, 24-hour
room service, concierge services, heated outdoor pool and gift shop.
The hotel consists of a 300-room East Tower, a 400-room West Tower
and a four-story, 89-room low-rise. The hotel has already undergone
$6 million in renovations, with an additional $1 million investment
planned for the East Tower. The West Tower is scheduled to undergo
a $12.5 million renovation during the next three years and will
be gradually converted to 209 timeshare units. Additional renovations
will be made to the restaurants, front desk, and lobby.
"As an emerging hotel brand in the United States, this Las
Vegas hotel will help raise the awareness of Park Plaza in one the
country's most popular travel destinations," said Bjørn
Gullaksen, brand leader for Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and
executive vice president for full-service hotels for Carlson Hotels
Worldwide.
The Park Plaza Las Vegas Lady Luck Casino Hotel is owned by Newport,
Calif.-based Steadfast Companies. Irv Ash, a principal in the hotel
management arm of the organization, worked for 15 years in hotel
development with Carlson Hotels Worldwide before leaving late last
year to pursue hotel ownership.
"When I became a hotel franchisee, I knew that Carlson was
the company with whom I wanted to partner," said Ash. "I
know first-hand the value and importance that Carlson places on
relationships and people - for both customers and business partners.
In addition, we felt it was important to brand the hotel. We believe
the Park Plaza brand, coupled with Carlson's award-winning Curtis-C
central reservation system, will enhance our 85 percent occupancy
by adding value and helping secure an even better rate," he
added.
The world-famous Fremont Street Experience, located across the
street from the hotel, is a pedestrian promenade located in the
neon center of Las Vegas. This beautifully landscaped area includes
a misting system, retail carts, kiosks, free mall entertainment
and one-of-a-kind light and sound shows. The shows are derived from
over 2 million lights and 540,000 watts of concert quality sound
and are presented hourly each night between dusk and midnight. The
$100 million award-winning project is considered a must-see attraction.
